A pocket database of everything a busy captain needs (even if he can't remember exactly).
What's not in his head is in the CAPTAIN'S HANDBOOK. Extremely economical, extremely clear.
It's easy to take for granted how much a captain needs to know. How to navigate, steer a boat in a new port, use a radio, recognize lights at night, repair an engine, predict the weather, entertain the crew and when something happens to someone, blow their nose. And much, much more! There's a lot to it and a lot of things can slip out of his head!
This pocket guide is designed to be a helper for those moments when the necessary information slips out of his head. It makes life so much easier for busy captains and is practically essential for novice captains. It should also become an invaluable guide for the RYA Yachtmaster syllabus.
The book was first published almost twenty years ago and its latest third British edition saw the light of day in 2019. The entire third edition has been edited and thoroughly updated by Yachtmaster instructor and examiner Sara Hopkinson.
And it is this third edition that is being published in the Czech version here too.
WHAT'S NOT IN YOUR HEAD IS IN THE CAPTAIN'S HANDBOOK
"Whether you're setting sail on your own boat for the first time or have years of experience, this is a practical reference guide to carry in your pocket or on board." Sailing Today
"The Captain's Pocket Handbook packs generous coverage of many topics into a small volume... everything is presented clearly and concisely, and the use of many color schemes helps the reader to absorb individual points quickly." Yachting Life
"It has all the useful lights, sounds and shapes, as well as instructions for working out tide heights, positioning, headings etc. There's also some really useful general information on meteorology, seamanship, knots and basic maintenance. In short... the next best thing to having an instructor on board. Even if you're not taking a course, The Captain's Pocket Guide is a must-have for anyone new to yachting or looking to brush up on their theoretical knowledge, even in this digital age."
